Programs

Athletics helps create a positive outlet for youth so that they avoid anti-social behaviors such as crime. Many African youth do not have support for organized athletic programs. GACI coordinates youth soccer tournaments in Mombasa Kenya to promote physical fitness, build community, and give hope to young athletes.

Every day, thousands of women sit in prison cells around the world—many of them mothers, survivors of abuse, and women who never had access to the support they needed. GACI's African Women Empowered Initiative has adopted Shimo La Tewa Prison in Mombasa, Kenya by hosting an annual Ramadan Iftar event, providing women a day of food and gifting of much needed hygiene supplies. The annual event brings joy and hope to many women who have been forgotten.

Our long-term goal is to support these women upon release  from prison, so that they can re-enter society with the support they need to succeed.

In today’s world, where xenophobia and racism are exhibited more frequently via mainstream television and social media, we seek to cultivate young environmental leaders who understand how we are all connected, regardless of race, culture and geography.  

GACI created this project to create future global environmental leaders through virtual international learning experiences and joint youth-led environmental projects in the U.S. and Africa. 

The project involves Saturday classrooms held jointly in Seattle Washington and Mombasa, Kenya where kids 10-12 years old interact via video call to learn about their environment and work together on an environmental project.
